BOSTON — Plate umpire John Tumpane left Monday evening’s sport between the Baltimore Orioles and Red Sox within the seventh inning after getting hit within the masks by a foul ball.
Tumpane did not have an opportunity to maneuver when Ryan Mountcastle fouled off a 96 mph fastball by Ryan Brasier and the ball deflected barely, hitting Tumpane sq. within the protecting face masks and knocking it off.
Tumpane remained on his ft as a member of Boston’s athletic coaching workers got here out of the dugout and spoke with him behind dwelling plate. After a couple of minutes, Tumpane headed into the Crimson Sox dugout and went up the tunnel for additional analysis.
The sport resumed about 10 minutes later with Adrian Johnson, who had been umpiring at first base, behind the plate.
